Club Updates and News
Kevin Connors - Rotary Corporate Membership
This morning we had an excellent presentation from Kevin Connors about Rotary Corporate Membership and how they can be a positive force to Rotary Clubs. Members can watch the recording of the entire meeting or skip ahead to about the 33:00 mark to see Kevin's presentation here. (Recordings are only available for about 3 months.)
International Toast - Rotary Club of Regina
At our Friday morning breakfast meeting, we take the time to introduce and recognize Rotary Clubs from around the world.

This week we recognize the Rotary Club of Regina. Chartered in 1917, this club is one of five in the city of Regina and meets at noon on Mondays. The club maintains the tradition of having a piano player play through lunch, keeping with the club's musical history. Beginning in the 1930s the Rotary Club of Regina recognizes the Rotary anniversaries of its members by toasting its members. Collectively the clubs of Regina host an annual pancake breakfast, raising $1.2 million last year.

Club Assembly and Social (Second Attempt)
As you all know, the scheduled assembly for September 28th had to be cancelled last minute due to power issues. The Westin has now confirmed a new date for our club assembly.

Our club assembly will be Thursday, October 13th, 2022, at 6PM.

For all the details and to register for this event, please click here.

If you plan to attend this assembly (in person or via Zoom), please take a few moments to register here.
Truth and Reconciliation
Last Friday was the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.

If you took part in any activities on September 30th and feel comfortable sharing, please send your information to updates@rotaryhalifaxharbour.ca.
Hosts Families Needed for Youth Exchange
Our club is recommitting to youth exchange for the 2023-2024 school year. To be able to allow a local student to study abroad and to welcome an international student to NS, we need host families. We like to provide the student with 2-4 host families over the school year. We CAN NOT commit to a student until we know we have host families in the queue.

More details to come. Please reach out to Ashley Butt for more details.
Beatles Fest Update
This a reminder that there are lots of things happening as we plan for Beatles Fest on November 18 at the Central Libary. We will need help with some light food prep, and other volunteers are needed. Unfortunately, due to the size of the event, there will be no free admission to volunteers... sorry.

Westin Renovation
The Westin will be having some renovations soon, and there are some chairs and tables (maybe a board table) looking for a new home. If you know anyone or organizations needing some chairs and tables, please reach out to Glenn Bowie ASAP.
Afghan Family Coming to Halifax
An Afghan family is arriving in Halifax shortly. Another club has sponsored them, but they are looking for folks willing to help connect with this family and help them settle in. Please reach out to Jillian if you are interested.
North American Indigenous Games Ask
We have an ask from another club looking to connect with an organizer of the North American Indigenous Games happening in Halifax in 2023. We are exploring ways for Rotary to become involved. If you know someone, please reach out to Jillian.
Calling Nominations
We host our AGM in the late fall (November - December), where we nominate officers and board members for the following Rotary year (July 2023 - June 2024). A formal message will be sent to members about nominations, plus nominations can be made at the AGM. If you are interested in learning more or developing Rotary leadership experience, please keep an eye out for more information, or contact Jillian.
