At our Friday morning breakfast meeting, we take the time to introduce and recognize Rotary Clubs from around the world.
This week we recognize the Rotary Club of Regina. Chartered in 1917, this club is one of five in the city of Regina and meets at noon on Mondays. The club maintains the tradition of having a piano player play through lunch, keeping with the club's musical history. Beginning in the 1930s the Rotary Club of Regina recognizes the Rotary anniversaries of its members by toasting its members. Collectively the clubs of Regina host an annual pancake breakfast, raising $1.2 million last year.
Other notable things about the Rotary Club of Regina are:
- built and maintained the Rotary Park of Regina over the past 60 years
- help the Salvation Army during their Kettle Drive
- a major event in the community hosted by this club for the past 75 years is the annual Rotary Christmas Carol Festival
- hosts the largest golf tournament in the province
- built schools in Guatemala, along with several water projects
- many local and regional projects
