Long Lake Fellowship Walk – Casual Family-Friendly
Jul. 20, 2025 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.

**Moved to July 20**

Location: Long Lake Provincial Park – Parking lot at the corner of Northwest Arm Drive / Dunbrack St and Cowie Hill Rd

Description:
Join fellow Rotarians for a relaxed 1–1.5 hour walk along the groomed trails at Long Lake. The trail is mostly flat, wide, and surfaced with crusher dust, making it suitable for strollers, young children, and casual walkers. This event is open to Rotarians, family, and friends — all are welcome to join.

What to bring: water, sunscreen, bug spray, a hat, and good walking shoes.
Dogs: Welcome on leash.
Note: A short portion of the walk to the lake is narrower and uneven; standard tick precautions are recommended.

  3. Diversity and Inclusion: Focusing on creating a diverse and inclusive environment within clubs, reflecting the communities they serve and embracing a wide range of perspectives and skills.
  4. New Club Development: Exploring opportunities to establish new Rotary clubs in communities where there is a need or interest but no existing club, or in underrepresented areas and demographics.
  5. Club Innovation: Encouraging clubs to innovate in how they operate, meet, and conduct their activities, making them more appealing to potential members, especially younger professionals.
  6. Public Image and Awareness: Enhancing the public image of Rotary and raising awareness about the work Rotarians do, thereby attracting individuals interested in service and community leadership.

World Polio Day
Oct. 24, 2025
Rotary World Polio Day is observed annually on October 24th. This day was established by Rotary International to commemorate the global fight against polio and to rally efforts towards the complete eradication of the disease. It marks a key moment to raise awareness, funds, and support to end polio, a vaccine-preventable disease that still threatens children in some parts of the world.

Key aspects of World Polio Day include:
  1. Awareness and Advocacy: Rotary clubs worldwide conduct events and campaigns to increase public awareness about polio and the importance of vaccination to prevent it.
  2. Fundraising for Polio Eradication: Funds are raised to support polio immunization campaigns in countries where polio is still a threat. Rotary works in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in this effort.
  3. Global Cooperation: The day symbolizes the international cooperation that is essential for eradicating polio. It highlights the achievements made so far and the challenges that remain.
  4. Celebrating Progress: World Polio Day is also a time to celebrate the significant progress made towards polio eradication. Since Rotary and its partners launched the Global Polio Eradication Initiative in 1988, the incidence of polio has decreased by more than 99.9%.
  5. Educational Events: Many clubs organize educational sessions and conferences to inform people about polio, the importance of vaccinations, and the current status of eradication efforts.
Rotary International has played a major role in the efforts to eradicate polio since the 1980s and remains committed to seeing the end of the disease worldwide. World Polio Day serves as an important reminder of the ongoing need for action to achieve this goal.

Rotary Foundation Month is observed in November by Rotary International. This month is dedicated to celebrating and promoting The Rotary Foundation, which is Rotary's own and only charity. The Rotary Foundation transforms donations into service projects that change lives both close to home and around the world.

During Rotary Foundation Month, Rotary clubs focus on the Foundation's work and achievements, and encourage members to support its efforts. Key aspects of this observance include:
  1. Fundraising: Clubs and districts conduct various fundraising activities to support the Foundation's programs and initiatives.
  2. Educational Events: Informational sessions and events are organized to educate members about the Foundation's impact and the ways in which their contributions are used.
  3. Promoting Programs: Highlighting the Foundation's various programs, such as PolioPlus for polio eradication, Global Grants for large-scale international projects, and District Grants for smaller, local projects.
  4. Encouraging Contributions: Members are encouraged to contribute to the Foundation, emphasizing that their donations support sustainable projects in the areas of peace and conflict prevention/resolution, disease prevention and treatment, water and sanitation, maternal and child health, basic education and literacy, and economic and community development.
  5. Acknowledging Donors: Recognizing and thanking members and clubs for their support of the Foundation.
  6. Sharing Success Stories: Sharing stories of successful projects funded by the Foundation to illustrate the tangible impact of contributions.

Vocational Service Month
Jan. 01, 2026
Rotary Vocational Service Month is an annual observance by Rotary International, typically held in January. It focuses on the concept of vocational service, which is one of Rotary's Five Avenues of Service. The purpose of this month is to encourage Rotarians to focus on and celebrate the importance of high ethical standards in business and professions, to recognize the dignity and value of all useful occupations, and to contribute their vocational talents to solving the problems of society and meeting the needs of the community.

During this month, Rotary clubs and members are encouraged to undertake activities that highlight vocational service in their communities. This can include recognizing local businesses or professionals who exemplify high ethical standards, organizing career guidance initiatives for youth, or engaging in projects that contribute to professional development and ethics. It's a time for Rotarians to reflect on their own professions and to consider how they can use their professional skills to help address community needs and problems.
