Club Updates and News
Lana MacLean - Social Justice
At our Friday morning meeting we were very happy to hear from Lana MacLean, a clinical social worker and consultant. (See Lana on LinkedIn here) Lana talked about her work in the community around social justice.

Thank you Lana for speaking with our club!

You can view the recording of Lana’s presentation here and scrolling to the 18 minute mark. Members are reminded that recording are only available for a limited time. Please reach out if you want a recording to be preserved.
Pints for Polio - October 25
As you may know, World Polio Day is coming up, and to celebrate we are having a Pints for Polio night at the Celtic Corner in Dartmouth. The event will take place on Tuesday, the 25th of October 2022, from 5pm-9pm, and operate as a drop in. Moosehead has generously come on as a sponsor, and will be donating $1 from every pint of Moosehead Lager draught sold that night to Polio Plus!

The Beatles New Your Help
Beatles Fest is going to be a “major” event and big revenue driver for our club. Just like RibFest, Mother’s Day Brunch, and other events we host, we depend on volunteers. If you are free on the evening of November 18, please reach out to Alex Handyside to ask about volunteer opportunities.

We need your help! Without these important events we are not able to support the causes dear to us.
International Toast - Rotary Club de Saint-Pierre et Miquelon
At our Friday morning breakfast meeting, we take the time to introduce and recognize Rotary Clubs from around the world.

This week we recognize the Rotary Club de Saint-Pierre et Miquelon. This club is a very special to Atlantic Canada as it is located in our district (7830) on an island just off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. Yet, the island of Saint-Pierre et Miquelon is part of France, so they fittingly deserve an international toast from us.

Most recently, members of this club took part in Blue Week, a time to recognize and honour elders. The club organized a belote tournament, a card game, and handed out flowers with members of the Doyens Lions Club at a retirement home and hospital.

For everyone who came to the Westin or join by Zoom for the Club Assembly, thank you!

We will have a summary and recording available soon for those who were not able to attend and those who want to see it again.
Hosts Families Needed for Youth Exchange
Our club is recommitting to youth exchange for the 2023-2024 school year. To be able to allow a local student to study abroad and to welcome an international student to NS, we need host families. We like to provide the student with 2-4 host families over the school year. We CAN NOT commit to a student until we know we have host families in the queue.

Calling Nominations
We host our AGM in the late fall (November - December), where we nominate officers and board members for the following Rotary year (July 2023 - June 2024). A formal message will be sent to members about nominations, plus nominations can be made at the AGM. If you are interested in learning more or developing Rotary leadership experience, please keep an eye out for more information, or contact Jillian.
