Club Updates and News
Giving Tuesday and ShelterBox
Giving Tuesday is happening on November 29th, and we are encouraging everyone to participate by donating to a charity of their choice, including ShelterBox. You can learn more about Stock the BOX. Please reach out to Sally for all the details.

Did you know if you make a donation to ShelterBox on Giving Tuesday (Nov 29th), ShelterBox will match your donation?
A Beatles Fest Thank You
Last night, in a parallel universe, guests were shuffling in, doffing their winter coats and stepping into their dancing shoes. Tabs on cans were being pulled, and pinots poured into real-glass glasses. Trivia questions on the big screen were generating conversation between strangers as kitchen elves brought out trays of spanakopita to be placed in front of surprised guests. In the green room, the musician was heard tuning his guitar in readiness. While the guests scaned their programs in anticipation, the stage manager is reminding the emcee - for the third time - when he was to make his way to the stage. (Some things don't change). And all the volunteers were smiling busily and nodding to each other in acknowledgement that the months of work behind the scenes had finally paid off.

Holiday Hamper Drive
For the last many years, the club has provided about 20 hampers to the community in Spryfield as coordinated by Bob Power. This year we are working with the North End Parent Resource Centre to expand that drive to include Uniacke Square. We hope to double our hampers this year, with 20 going to Spryfield and 20 to Uniacke Square. Please reach out to Dave Kowlessar or Bob Power for more information.

We need items for the hampers. Please see the current list here.
PALS Update
The PALS tutoring program has begun at Joe Howe School. There are other opportunities to fill needs at the schools, including lunch time monitors to help with the kids.

If you want to learn more about PALS or are interested in volunteering at the school, please reach out to Adrienne Malloy.
Institutional Capacity Building
We are looking to reinvigorate our connection with Saint George Youth Net through institutional capacity building. The idea of institutional capacity building is not about donating money, but using the existing skill sets within the club that members have to help support this organization. Look for more information in the future and contact Dave Kowlessar with questions.
Salvation Army Christmas Kettle
If you are interested in volunteering for the Salvation Army Christmas Kettles, please reach out to Dave Kowlessar.
Christmas Cheer Care to our Community
Every year, we celebrate Christmas with various traditions and, well, just a general sense of glad tidings while not forgetting the reason for the season. In our engagement with our community, we want to build a stronger connection. We are asking each member to provide a gift addressed to “Your family” OR “You” and with your own name from RHH; you may opt to put a contact like an email or telephone number to make it personal and, in that way, connect with the community. We will be distributing these gifts through the hampers and the various community service projects and ask that we get them by the date of the Christmas Social (December 10th). Please reach out to Dave Kowlessar for more details.
Save The Date - Paul Harris Fellow Night
Our next Paul Harris Fellow night will be at the Westin Nova Scotian on April 20th. Please check your email for a for call nominations. We are looking for five people in our community who exemplify the values of Rotary. All nominations must be made by January 15th.
Afghan Family
This is a reminder to members that we are still planning to offer some assistance to an Afghan family arriving in the Halifax Area. The family of eight (five girls, one boy) aged 2-13 are currently in Pakistan. While this is not a financial ask of the club or its members, this family will need help settling in and becoming part of our community. If you are interested in helping, please reach out to Dave Kowlessar.
Hosts Families Needed for Youth Exchange
Our club is recommitting to youth exchange for the 2023-2024 school year. To be able to allow a local student to study abroad and to welcome an international student to NS, we need host families. We like to provide the student with 2-4 host families over the school year. We CAN NOT commit to a student until we know we have host families in the queue.
