It was a fantastic weekend on the water as Sail Able Nova Scotia hosted the 2026 Maritime Cup on August 8 and 9, and Rotary Halifax Harbour was proud to be there supporting the event both on shore and through our ongoing financial commitment.
Members and volunteers from our club were on site from Friday through Sunday, helping with the many hands-on jobs that make an event like this possible. That included helping get boats into the water before the competition, bringing them back out at the end of the weekend, and lending a hand throughout the event. On Saturday, our volunteers also took their turn behind the BBQ, helping keep sailors, volunteers, and supporters fed during a busy day of racing.
More Than a Weekend of Volunteering
Our support for Sail Able Nova Scotia goes beyond volunteering at the Maritime Cup. Rotary Halifax Harbour is proud to be a Presenting Sponsor, with a $5,000 commitment to support the organization and its work.
Along with the contributions of other sponsors and supporters, this funding helps Sail Able continue its accessible sailing programs and create opportunities for people with disabilities to get out on the water.
Fundraising support also helps Sail Able participants travel to important events and competitions like the Maritime Cup, giving sailors opportunities to develop their skills, compete, and connect with the wider accessible sailing community.
Proud to Be Part of It
The Maritime Cup is a great example of what can happen when participants, volunteers, community organizations, and sponsors come together.
For Rotary Halifax Harbour, supporting Sail Able reflects what community service can look like: sometimes it's financial support, sometimes it's lending a hand, and sometimes it's standing behind a BBQ on a Saturday afternoon. This weekend, we were fortunate to do all three.
