About Rotary

Rotary is a global network of 1.4 million neighbours, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.

Solving real problems takes real commitment and vision. For more than 110 years, Rotary's people of action have used their passion, energy, and intelligence to take action on sustainable projects. From literacy and peace to water and health, we are always working to better our world, and we stay committed to the end.

About Rotary Halifax Harbour

The Rotary Club of Halifax Harbour was created in 2021 after the merger of two well-established Clubs – the Rotary Club of Halifax Harbourside and the Rotary Club of. Halifax. Today ours is a vibrant Club of more than 70 members representing various backgrounds and professions.  We are committed to doing good locally and internationally, personal and professional growth and development, and having fun in everything we do. Check out our social media to see just how much fun we are having!

Service Above Self

Like all Rotary Clubs worldwide, our Club's principal motto is Service Above Self. We have six areas of focus.

Our Club's approach to service projects is to reflect our members’ passions in the projects that we pursue.  We ask our members, "What would you like to accomplish through Rotary?" and go from there.

Our service projects are many and varied:
  • We’ve done larger multi-year projects like partnering with Hospice Halifax and St. George's YouthNet and have international partners with whom we have in several projects in different years (Ghana water project, Aninga Project and Shelter Box).
  • Each year we also consider new projects that are brought to us by Club members.
  • Our Club funds our partner organizations, but we believe we are at our best when directly engaged. As much as possible, we engage as hands-on volunteers with the groups we support- like the Joseph Howe School breakfast program and Soul’s Harbour Friday suppers.

Funding

To fund our service projects, we conduct fundraising throughout the year. All our fundraisers have to be fun and provide good returns, and we focus on "pull" fundraisers that draw people.

Meetings

Our club meets most Fridays at the Westin Nova Scotian in Halifax and on Zoom. Our meetings are informative and entertaining, with around 25- 30 members and guests at most meetings. We also organize regular social or fellowship events, and Rotary-affiliated activities together (IWK Carpentry Workshop, chorale singing, and motorcycle touring), and more.
