Rotary Awareness Month

Today was not so great outside but fantastic inside at our meeting! We inducted 3 members, 2 new and 1 transfer, and had a great speech from Paul Besant from the New World Merchant Bank.
Even though the weather was miserable, it was a great day to be a Rotarian... but not so great if you happen to be a Paraskevidekatriaphobe. In fact, 2012 may not be a great year for those folks as they will have 3 tough days to get through during the year... ;-) ... figure it out...
Val got us off to a great start with O Canada and, in celebration of Rotary Awareness Month, we recited the Four Way Test... there were a few rusty bits.... we should practice more often! Our Sargeant at Arms, Bob, facilitated the sharing of news - a couple of highlights: Vivienne had a great Christmas in Ontario with family and she commented on the Assembly held this week; Shanta reported that his wife is doing well after some health issues.
After a few reminders - Ukranian New Year's party at Val's on the 14th, Board meeting on the 18th, Membership event on the 18th, Blind Date with a Star on the 23rd... we heard a short report from Bonnie on the Assembly. It was focused on discussion of a new signature local service project - check out the notes on the website from the Jan 11th Assembly, for information on the ideas presented.
Louisa shared some great news - we have a new option for breakfast - those who do not wish to have the buffet can buy a muffin or bagel at the snack bar in the hotel bar across the hall. We wished Paulette a great trip as she, Gerry and others on the team head to the Dominican Republic today.
It was a particularly wonderful Rotary day because we inducted three new members - Caitlin and Paulette became new members and Shanta transferred his membership to us, after a break from his previous club in Nepal. We welcome these talented Rotarians to our club.
We were also pleased to welcome Paul Beasant, New World Bank - and a member of the new Sackville club - to our meeting as a speaker. Paul gave us some tips on seeking business financing.
Sadly, Bonnie was not successful with the 50-50 draw and so the pot builds.
