Updated December 11, 2023.
Below is the annual report for the Rotary Year of 2022/2023. On June 23, 2023, members of the Board shared their final reports for the 2022/23 Rotary year. The recordings plus additional content are found below.
President Jillian Gibson
To my dear fellow Rotarians,
As we approach the end of another Rotary year, I wanted to take a moment to express gratitude to each and every one of you for your own unique way of expressing Rotary’s vision: “Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change — across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.” I can’t wait to see what’s ahead for Rotary in Halifax!
At the Changeover event on Friday evening, I gave out a few special awards.
From each of our “Action Teams”, I selected one non-board member who stood out for their exceptional Service Above Self:
- We Create Opportunities – Chris Hornberger for her work with the Strategic Planning Committee
- We Connect People – Nadera Buffett for her role in bringing Youth Exchange back to our club after COVID.
- We Transform Communities – Stephen Beaufoy for his steadfast passion for International Service
- We Fund Sustainable Projects – Gerri Pierce for his oh-so-important work with Ribfest
As a token of appreciation to the Board members, I had some fun with these awards (each given with a fun candy!)
- Henk van Leeuwen: Storyteller Award – for telling the Rotary story through our members’ actions in such a compassionate, caring way
- Alexander Russell: Connector Award – for keeping the many programs of Rotary connected to us in a meaningful way
- Dave Kowlessar: Comeback Award – having been a member in the past, Dave rejoined the club and hit the ground running with his stellar leadership
- Lori Payne: Versatility Award – best known for her work with Joseph Howe School, when a need arose, Lori stepped into the role of Treasurer
- Tom Paul: Innovator Award – for challenging the status quo and constantly finding ways to improve efficiency, Tom’s work gives members more time for action
- Mike Gibson: Family of Rotary Award – for leading the district in membership recruitment and for his genuine care and concern for our members
- Godfred Chongaterra: Peacemaker Award – for his work locally and internationally towards peace and understanding
- Ashley Butt: True Rotarian Award – A special recognition given by Clubs around the world for those who demonstrate a true Rotary spirit
Many thanks to every member of the Rotary Club of Halifax Harbour. We are People of Action!
Yours in Rotary,
Jillian Gibson
