20 Jul. 2025 Long Lake Fellowship Walk – Casual Family-Friendly Jul. 20, 2025 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Moved to July 20 Location: Long Lake Provincial Park – Parking lot at the corner of Northwest Arm Drive / Dunbrack St and Cowie Hill Rd Description: Join fellow Rotarians for a relaxed 1–1.5 hour walk along the groomed trails at Long Lake. The trail is mostly flat, wide, and surfaced with crusher dust, making it suitable for strollers, young children, and casual walkers. Along the way, we’ll have the option to take a dip in the lake — bring your swimwear and towel if interested! This event is open to Rotarians, family, and friends — all are welcome to join. What to bring: water, sunscreen, bug spray, a hat, and good walking shoes. Dogs: Welcome on leash. Note: A short portion of the walk to the lake is narrower and uneven; standard tick precautions are recommended.

26 Jul. 2025 Long Lake Fellowship Hike – Full Loop Adventure Jul. 26, 2025 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Rain date: Sunday, July 27 Location: Long Lake Provincial Park – Parking lot at the corner of Northwest Arm Drive / Dunbrack St and Cowie Hill Rd Description: Ready for a challenge? Join us for a 5-hour hike around the entire Long Lake loop, combining both groomed and backcountry trails. This is a more demanding trek with uneven terrain and limited exit points, best suited for experienced hikers. We’ll stop along the way for breaks and scenic views — including opportunities to swim, so feel free to pack a towel and trunks! This event is open to Rotarians, family, and friends who are comfortable with a backcountry hiking experience. What to bring: plenty of water, snacks or lunch, sun protection, bug spray, sturdy hiking shoes, and optional swimwear. Dogs: While the park is officially on-leash, off-leash dogs are common in the backcountry. Bring a leash and use good judgment. Note: Not suitable for young children or strollers.

This month focuses on one of Rotary's areas of service: supporting education and literacy. Rotary clubs around the world engage in various activities and projects aimed at improving educational opportunities and literacy rates in their communities and globally. Key aspects and initiatives of Basic Education and Literacy Month include: Supporting Schools and Education Centers: Projects to provide schools with necessary resources, like books, technology, and infrastructure improvements. Adult Literacy Programs: Initiatives aimed at improving literacy among adults, often through community classes and resources. Early Childhood Education: Emphasizing the importance of early learning and supporting programs that provide educational foundations for young children. 24 Oct. 2025 World Polio Day Oct. 24, 2025 Rotary World Polio Day is observed annually on October 24th. This day was established by Rotary International to commemorate the global fight against polio and to rally efforts towards the complete eradication of the disease. It marks a key moment to raise awareness, funds, and support to end polio, a vaccine-preventable disease that still threatens children in some parts of the world. Key aspects of World Polio Day include: Awareness and Advocacy: Rotary clubs worldwide conduct events and campaigns to increase public awareness about polio and the importance of vaccination to prevent it. Fundraising for Polio Eradication: Funds are raised to support polio immunization campaigns in countries where polio is still a threat. Rotary works in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in this effort. Global Cooperation: The day symbolizes the international cooperation that is essential for eradicating polio. It highlights the achievements made so far and the challenges that remain. Celebrating Progress: World Polio Day is also a time to celebrate the significant progress made towards polio eradication. This month is dedicated to celebrating and promoting The Rotary Foundation, which is Rotary's own and only charity. The Rotary Foundation transforms donations into service projects that change lives both close to home and around the world. During Rotary Foundation Month, Rotary clubs focus on the Foundation's work and achievements, and encourage members to support its efforts. Key aspects of this observance include: Fundraising: Clubs and districts conduct various fundraising activities to support the Foundation's programs and initiatives. Educational Events: Informational sessions and events are organized to educate members about the Foundation's impact and the ways in which their contributions are used.
