Rotary Halifax Harbour is proud to announce a donation of $2,000 to ShelterBox to support emergency relief for communities devastated by the recent earthquake in Afghanistan.

Earthquake in Afghanistan

On August 31, 2025, a powerful magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan, affecting provinces including Kunar, Nangarhar, and Laghman. The quake caused widespread destruction, collapsing homes, triggering landslides, and cutting off remote communities.

Thousands of families have been displaced, over 2,200 lives lost, and many more injured. With roads damaged and access limited, survivors face an urgent need for shelter, clean water, and basic supplies.

ShelterBox on the Ground

ShelterBox, an international disaster relief organization, is working with partners to provide emergency shelter and essential items for families who have lost everything. Their aid often includes durable tents, water filters, blankets, solar lights, and cooking sets—tools that help families survive and begin rebuilding their lives.

Rotary and ShelterBox: A Trusted Partnership

ShelterBox is Rotary International’s official project partner for disaster relief. Since 2000, Rotary clubs worldwide have raised millions to help ShelterBox respond to earthquakes, floods, cyclones, and other humanitarian crises. Rotarians frequently assist with logistics, local connections, and fundraising to ensure relief reaches the people who need it most.

Our Club’s Ongoing Support

Rotary Halifax Harbour has been a long-time supporter of ShelterBox. From hurricanes in the Caribbean to earthquakes in Turkey, Syria, and now Afghanistan, our club is proud to stand with ShelterBox year after year.

This latest contribution is part of our ongoing commitment to help families around the world recover from disaster and restore hope.

💚 When disaster strikes, ShelterBox and Rotary are there—bringing shelter, stability, and dignity to those who need it most.
