We are thrilled to share some wonderful news about our very own Louisa Horne!

The Zone 28 Nominating Committee has selected Louisa to serve as a Rotary International Director from July 2028 to June 2030. If there are no challenges to the nomination, her selection will be confirmed on December 1.

This is an extraordinary honour for Louisa and a proud moment for the Rotary Club of Halifax Harbour. Please join us in congratulating her on this well-deserved recognition!

What does a Rotary International Director do?

The Rotary International Board of Directors establishes policy for Rotary International and provides guidance to help Rotary and Rotaract clubs thrive. Directors help shape the organization’s strategic direction, consider matters involving programs, membership, governance and finances, and ensure that the experiences and perspectives of clubs and districts are reflected in Rotary’s global decision-making.

In her role, Louisa will help represent Zones 28 and 32 while contributing to decisions that affect Rotary members and communities around the world.

A life of leadership and service

Louisa served as Governor of District 7820 in 2019–20 and currently serves as Rotary Membership Coordinator for Zone 28. She is also the District’s representative to Rotary’s Council on Legislation.

An entrepreneur, business leader and doctoral scholar, Louisa is passionate about building partnerships and “connecting dots.” She expects to complete her PhD research on civic engagement and volunteering next year.

A former geologist and teacher, Louisa has also served as a national director of Canada’s largest small-business advisory consultancy. As an independent management consultant specializing in leadership development, her work focuses on change management and facilitating innovative initiatives.

Louisa is a Strategic Doing Practitioner through Purdue University and studied Innovative Business Design at the University of Toronto. She is also certified as a corporate director through the Rotman School of Management and as a business coach.

Nearly two decades of Rotary service

Louisa has been a member of the Rotary Club of Halifax Harbour since 2005. She was inspired to join Rotary after her younger daughter was selected to participate in Rotary Youth Exchange.

A multiple Paul Harris Fellow, Louisa led the district’s final Group Study Exchange team to Malaysia and a Rotary Friendship Exchange to New Zealand.

Known for her creative approach to leadership, Louisa is always looking for new ways to increase Rotary’s impact—and its irresistibility. She has served several times as an RI President’s Representative, facilitated workshops at three Rotary International Conventions, spoken during numerous RI webinars, and delivered keynote presentations at Presidents-elect training sessions and district conferences across North America.

Louisa’s ability to bring people together, challenge conventional thinking and turn innovative ideas into action will serve Rotary exceptionally well at the international level.

Congratulations, Louisa! Your friends at the Rotary Club of Halifax Harbour are incredibly proud of you, and we look forward to supporting you as you begin this exciting new chapter in your Rotary journey.
