Vivienne had her debut as Sergeant at Arms, under Lanc’s careful mentoring.  She did a great job.  We heard some happy news – school is back in session and that is good news for many.  Our Exchange Student, Natalia, has arrived and has already started school at Citadel High – we are looking forward to getting to know her better.  Bonnie is back to school as well – she has started her Masters degree in Counselling at Acadia.  Louisa was happy to be meeting the visiting Rotarians from Scotland who are here on a Friendship Exchange.  Paul and Stella are glad to be back from the UK where they had a wonderful time with family, celebrating the life of Stella’s dad who passed away recently.

Louisa reminded everyone to invite women to the Membership Event on Sunday, September 25th at Ready to Rumba at 1:00 p.m.

She also reminded the Club that we will NOT have a meeting on Friday, October 7th – instead, we are meeting on Wednesday the 5th at 5:30 p.m. at the Comfort Inn in Bayers Lake.

We will be meeting the following week, Friday, October 14th at a different location as the Westin cannot accommodate us that day.

Peter noted that the next Business meeting will feature impersonators – Lanc and Vivienne.

Valerie reminded the Club to be selling roses – we have a space at the same warehouse on Barrington Street as we used last year, to prepare the roses.  Lanc suggested we acquire some better staplers to close the boxes.  Gerry has ordered the roses and has the oases already.  The online site is working for sales – so, sell sell sell!

A Yak on Your Shoulder!

Our speaker today was motivational speaker, Peter Davison (www.peterdavison.ca/dreamweaver2011.html).  He has worked with gangs in LA and in Northern Ireland and he had some wonderful stories.  He spoke about unsung heroes and his experience reaching the bottom of Mt. Everest!  He said that if you meet a yak on the path, you have a choice of letting it pass by leaning toward the edge of the path that drops off into a deep valley, or leaning against the mountain wall.  He recommended the latter and suggested that if you meet a yak on the path of life, you should stay on the path and avoid the valleys of despair.  Peter reminded us that there are little yaks on our shoulders – stress yaks, stinkin’ thinkin’ yaks and difficult people yaks.  We have the power to deal with all of these – in particular, the stress yaks can be banished by flushing the negativity away with clown noses!  We practiced and it worked.

Lanc’s 50-50 ticket was drawn – he had already left and sadly, Louisa was unsuccessful in choosing a winning card in his absence.
