Shae’s journey was recently highlighted in Phoenix’s 2024 - 2025 Report on the Community (page 12), where she spoke about “finding her place” and how new experiences have helped her grow in confidence and connection.
In her conversation with Phoenix, Shae reflected on the importance of being supported while also being encouraged to step outside her comfort zone—something that has helped her discover her own strengths and voice.
Rotary Halifax Harbour is proud to have played a role in Shae’s story. In spring 2024, we sponsored her to take part in the Rotary Club of Ottawa’s long-running Adventures in Citizenship program. Shae later shared her experience with our club, which we captured in this article: Shae’s Adventures in Citizenship – A Journey of Growth and Connection.
Shae first connected with us through Phoenix, which has been dedicated to supporting youth and families across Halifax/Kjipuktuk since 1987. With 16 locations offering services such as shelter, food, housing support, health care, education, employment, and recreation, Phoenix provides a continuum of care that empowers young people to lead in their own lives.
We’re inspired by Shae’s story and grateful for the role Phoenix plays in helping youth thrive in our community.
